CCI Decision

The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure today accorded approval for Installing mechanized fertilizer handling facilities at Eastern Quay-7 (EQ-7) Berth in the inner harbour of Visakhapatnam Port (VPT) on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis at Visakhapatnam at an estimated cost of Rs.217.58 crores.

The mechanization of the berth along with additional bagging and dispatch facility would enable the Port to handle 5.2 Million Tonnes of fertilizer per annum. The project is to be implemented within a period of 24 months from the date of award of the concession.

The following are the benefits/results of the project:-

i) It will enable the post to handle 5.2 Million Tonnes(MT) of fertilizer per annum with a capacity addition of about 3.7 MT per annum.

ii) It will enhance the operational efficiency levels at various stages of fertilizer handling at the port, reduce cost of handling and avoid demurrages to ships.

iii) It will lead to faster unloading and speedier evacuation of fertilizers at the port.

iv) The mechanized handling of fertilizer will also decongest the roads, avoid spillage, minimize the pollution and other environmental problems.
